Motorcycle helmets mainly offer two types of protection during a crash: impact protection and abrasion protection. It is important to remember that aside from choosing what motorcycle to buy, invest in a good helmet too. Among the various helmet brands, AGV is an Italian helmet manufacturer that provides protection and comfort to riders.

AGV, which stands for Amisano Gino Valenza, started out as a leather seat and bicycle saddle manufacturer in 1946. One year later, the company made a big step in entering the motorcycle helmets world. The company rose to popularity after they formed a partnership with Honda motorcycles in the late ’80s. AGV helmets were matched to Honda’s lineup of motorcycles and each matching agv helmet was featured in Honda dealerships in America.

AGV, which was one of the first companies to adapt racing endorsements, was able to get the dominating motorcycle racers in the world. They acquired Italian multi-time world champion Grand Prixmotorcycleroad racerGiacomo Agostini as their endorser. Valentino Rossi, an Italian professional motorcycle racer and a multiple MotoGP World Champion of the ’90s, started his career wearing an AGV helmet. Rossi won his nine world championship titles together with AGV.

In 2007, AGV was acquired by Dainese, an Italian company that specializes in protective gear for mountain biking, motorcycling and downhill skiing. Rossi became an honorary president of the company in 2008.Today, the AGV helmet line is divided into four segments in North America: Race, Street, Off-Road and Open-Face. In the European market, AGV helmets sold are categorized as Race, GT Series, Off-Road, City and Street Road.

K3 is an entry level AGV helmet. It comes in 12 different patterns, including five intricate Valentino Rossi graphics. This helmet uses what AGV calls a painted High Resistant Thermoplastic (HIR-TH) resin helmet shell. The overall finish of the K3 looks very good, with deep and eye-catching colors and metallic silver stripes.

Aside from the attractive colors, the quality of the recessed top vents and the chin vent is very impressive. Its top vents are skillfully recessed into the helmet shell with tight tolerance. The operation of upper and lower vents is superb. The vents have a solid feel and provide excellent ventilation.

All the parts of the helmet show outstanding quality, including the flawlessly applied soft rubber gasket around the bottom of the helmet shell. The eye port gasket and the fit of the face shield of this AGV helmet are perfectly executed. It also has a first-rate face shield removal mechanism and extra-thick D-rings. It is finished off with a comfortable chin strap padding and liner.

All these great features indicate that even an entry-level AGV helmet can compete with the more expensive ones.
